Habitat MV has a New Director!
Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard has a new Executive Director, Jessica Burgoyne. Jessica graduated from MV Regional High School and then studied Communications in Politics and Law at Emerson College. She returned to the Vineyard, working as a paralegal for several years before becoming Director of Morgan Woods, a 60-unit affordable housing center in Edgartown.
As Habitat’s new executive director, Jessica brings a wide range of skills to her new position, from knowledge of the island community, and its housing needs, to skills at managing interagency relationships.
We are all thrilled that Jessica has joined the Habitat MV team!

A Vineyard Story

In the summer of 2011, Habitat for Humanity of Martha's Vineyard hosted a special event - a story telling concert by Vinyarder Susan Klein. It was a great success and those in attendance were riveted by Susan's tales of Martha's Vineyard of yore. Susan kindly produced a recording in which she tells the story of one of our partners, Chris Rasmussen. It is a short story about the challenge that many year round residents experience in surviving in this wonderful place. Please take a few minutes to watch this story unfold.

What We are Building Now

In September 2010, the Town of West Tisbury transfered three affordable housing lots to HabitatMV for construction of three single-family homes.

House One (#49 Bailey Park Road):

This existing 1,344 sq. ft. ranch house was donated by the MV Savings Bank and moved from thier lot in North Tisbury 2.2 miles to the end of Bailey Park Road in June 2011.  141 people from the community volunteered over 2,000 hours in addition to the Fragosa family Sweat Equity investment of over 600 hours to complete this renovation. The first build day was on June 13, 2011 and  the Certificate of Occupancy was issued on July 16, 2012 - 13 months.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build simple, decent housing for families in the lowest qualifying income range. Our homes are built with volunteer labor, donated materials and charitable donations. We believe that addressing the lack of affordable housing - one house at a time - will keep our Island a healthy, vital community.

We graciously accept donations of time, materials as well as financial donations.

Help Habitat of MV

Habitat is able to deliver affordable housing to families earning at or below 80% of the Dukes County Area Median Income (AMI) through generous financial donations, volunteer time and new and recycled building materials. Please become a Habitat partner and make a difference in the world. Donate money, time and/or building materials today.
